Compass Summer 2025

Compass is a huge success

Abi writes before heading onto maternity leave, how our partnership with Youthscape in running the Compass course has been a wonderful opportunity to work with our local secondary schools and celebrate change in the most vulnerable of young people across Redcar.

It’s been a joy to work with Youthscape on running their Compass programme in Redcar over this last term. Compass is a bold intervention programme that seeks to re-engage some of the most at risk and vulnerable students with their education. It’s a nine-session course focused on increasing students’ determination, resilience and aspirations. Students are taught to understand their emotions and equipped with tools and coping methods to be able to manage and communicate their emotions in positive ways.

We’ve been blown away at the impact we’ve seen in the students’ lives over this cohort and are extremely proud of all their have achieved. Here’s some of what they’ve had to say:

‘Compass has helped me learn how to communicate, understand and express my emotions in a slower and more positive way’

‘We’ve set goals that get bigger each week like trying to stay in our lessons’

‘I’ve learnt breathing techniques that help me to stay calm when I want to shout’
